Overview

Project Managers (PMs) participate in the planning, preparation and execution of environmental projects. They are responsible for overall on-site project performance from inception to close.  PMs are leaders and will work alongside their team members. PMs are the main point of contact for clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scope and budget. Manage and track project related costs utilizing company generated forms and computer software.
  • Communicate project scope and plan to team members. Procure assets as needed to ensure project is completed in a timely manner within budget.
  • Coordinate logistics for transportation of hazardous, universal and non-hazardous waste including profiling, scheduling, manifesting and physically loading bulk and drums.
  • Utilizing company software to setup projects, input project information on a daily basis, prepare project related documents including but not limited to job summaries, waste profiles and labels, permits, hours worked and expense tracking.
  • Maintain project files with current documents.
  • Manage potential risks and liabilities through complete understanding of contracts and regulatory procedures. Monitor job sites to ensure that operations are safe and legal; be alert to changing site conditions and adjust scope to ensure the ongoing safety of team members.
  • Monitor response times, identify inefficiencies and implement solutions.
  • Responsible for managing a client base of new and existing customers. Must have the ability to market various service lines and provide technical support through presentations and sales calls.
  • Develop relationships with fire departments and local emergency planning committees and participate in business development programs.
  • Actively develop team members through cross training. Coach and mentor team members to maximize skills and abilities with a focus on continued improvement.
  • Promote a culture of safety. Monitor and enforce compliance with established policy and be alert for opportunities and suggestions that support continuous improvement. Ensure that team members have the necessary training to perform assigned duties.
  • Review invoices to ensure project is invoiced correctly. Assist with collection activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Flexible to changes in the work schedule/extended workdays and be available to respond on short notice. Willingness to travel out of town for overnight projects on short notice.
  • Strong personal and professional integrity and ability to work independently or lead a team.
  • Strong leadership and developmental skills.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication, organization, leadership and supervision skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be able to read and write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting/manual labor and the ability to work in elevated or confined spaces.
  • Willing to follow and enforce governmental regulatory procedures, industry practices, and have a strong understanding and willingness to follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment, random and or post-accident/injury substance abuse screening, and obtain applicable medical examiners certification.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • 5+ years relative field experience (or combination of education and experience)
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification (with current 8-hr Refresher)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences or Construction Management is preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation required. Commercial Driver’s License with CDL-A with X endorsement preferred but not required.

 

Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentThis position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors in various climates for up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to climb steps and ladders
  • Must have the ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
  • Should have the ability to use basic hand tools

Our Project Managers are doers, not desk jockeys. You will be working outdoors and must be able jump in and help team members lift and move a minimum of 40 pounds. As is the nature of the environmental business, you will frequently be required to wear PPE, including respirators and protective clothing.
