The Sales Representative is the core driver of our sales and marketing efforts in our rail transload facilities.  Savage Sales Representatives are driven, creative, dynamic leaders responsible for growing business in an industry-focused division, evaluating needs and opportunities within customer accounts, and negotiating effectively to overcome obstacles and gain customer commitment, focusing on account management and retention of our valued customer base.  The primary role of the Sales Representative is to find new customers for the company’s rail transload facilities and win new orders in North America.  This can be done by networking, cold calling or other creative means of generating interest from potential customers.  This team member must develop rapport with new customers and will be required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new services/solutions to customers and leveraging Savage’s resources and networks.  


Job Duties:

  • Work with General Managers, Operations Managers, mid and senior level management in developing, capturing and expanding business for Savage’s rail transload facilities.
  • Research and build long-term partnerships with customers
  • Prospect and call on new customers
  • Set up meetings between customers
  • Present new services and geographic areas/markets to existing customers
  • Arrange and participate in ongoing meetings with customers and operating team
  • Track and record activity with customers
  • Participate in marketing of facilities
  • Attend Industry functions (i.e., Conferences, events)
  • Identify opportunities, services and distribution markets that will lead to growth
  • Research and develop an understanding of the company’s resources and capabilities
  • Forecast Sales targets and ensure they are being met
  • Understand the company’s goals
  • Attend Company, Group and Unit meetings and calls
  • Work with VP Development on projects outside the existing transload terminal network
  • Work with Unit leadership to develop proposals and service agreements
  • Submit weekly progress reports to VP Business Developer
  • Ensure data is entered and managed in Salesforce system




  • Proven track record to identify and close orders with customers
  • Thorough knowledge of many markets; including chemical and rail experience a definite plus
  • 4+ years of successful sales experience
  • Chemical, Refinery, and/or Railroad sales experience preferred
  • Demonstrated project management skills to lead, develop and execute plans
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to engage a wide variety of personality types at various professional skill levels
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including email, PowerPoint, MS Office, MS Excel.  Familiarity and preferred efficiency with CRM management tool (Salesforce)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities
  • Strong time management skills 
  • Goal oriented with entrepreneurial spirit, strong leadership skills, and decision-making abilities


  • Post High School degree preferred 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is in a professional office environment and some job site and customer visits (site visits are typically industrial in nature and require walking, climbing, and other similar activities)
  • Requires approximately 75% regular travel, principally inside North America
