Overview

Maintain the cleanliness of the offices and maintenance area of Savage’s Pabtex operation, as well as assist other personnel with additional functions such as washing of equipment, cleaning of conveyor system, basic maintenance and inventory management.

 

Responsibilities

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and operating a floor buffer/polisher, squeegees
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Must be able to operate a leaf blower/broom to remove debris buildup in the summer months
  • Clean and organize shop benches and heavy mechanic’s working areas
  • Clean lube pit and service area, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges/brushes
  • Dust office/shop furniture, walls, machines, shelving and equipment
  • Assist in adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing systems
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
  • Steam-clean floors or shampoo carpets
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish shop and office floors
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors, walls and fixtures
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Work with supervisor to requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties, maintaining a critical inventory of cleaning supplies
  • Have a basic understanding of how to Sort, straighten, shine, standardize and sustain

Qualifications

  • Must have a current TWIC card at the time of application 
  • Proven ability to be a self-starter and work with little supervision
  • Experience in a maintenance shop or industrial environment preferred, but not required
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred, but not required
  • Able to work safely in adverse conditions: summer heat, wet (washing floors), etc.
  • Driving record acceptable to Savage
  • Comply with all safety standards
  • Work nights and weekends if scheduled
  • Maintain a good attendance record
  • Complete duties as assigned in a timely manner
  • Attend communication meetings and safety training as scheduled
  • Pass drug/alcohol test
  • Be able to read, write, speak and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
  • Operate or move equipment around the yard and shop
  • Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a service truck
  • Flexibility and ability to work on various shop, maintenance and yard tasks
  • Environmental awareness
  • Has an invested interest in personal and operational safety

 

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years applicable experience


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions (heat and cold); time is split between a shop and outdoor environment
  • Must be physically able to handle heavy parts and pieces of equipment
  • Climb on and off the equipment
  • Physically demanding work will be a daily function of this position
  • Must be able to climb, crawl, and position their body in such a way that they can perform their required duties
  • This person should be able to frequently lift 50 lbs
