Overview

Our Buyer - Purchasing Agent provides support for Savage Companies in procuring needed materials and supply for the business.

Responsibilities

  • Check requisitions for completeness and clarity. Obtain necessary missing information where required.
  • Shop and place orders within authority limitations as assigned
  • Follow-up or expedite orders as requested by supervision
  • Check all purchase orders issued for accuracy and completeness
  • Review acknowledgements for agreement with purchase orders and alert the appropriate buyer of any discrepancies
  • Evaluate suppliers on the basis of the price, quality, and speed of delivery of their products and services
  • Interview vendors and visit suppliers’ plants and distribution centers to examine and learn about products, services, and prices
  • Attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences as needed to learn about new industry trends and make contacts with suppliers
  • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other information to determine reasonable prices
  • Negotiate contracts on behalf of the organization
  • Maintain and review records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories
  • Responsibilities are not all inclusive and may change based on the need of the company; other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • General understanding of AP, AR, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills (Computer files, process deadlines, paper documents, etc.) with the ability to multi-task, with ability to learn and utilize a variety of software platforms
  • Time management skills (Ability to prioritize, be proactive, etc.)
  • Experience in/with procurement and dealing with various personalities and disciplines
  • Good communication skills, self-motivated and proactive

Education/Experience

  • Undergraduate degree (Preferred); years of relevant experience considered
  • 1 – 3 years professional work experience preferred
  • Professional negotiation experience, certification preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Computer savvy and comfortable learning new software

Physical Requirements

  • Work is in a professional office environment
  • Ability to sit or stand at an office desk for long periods of time
  • Ability to travel based on the need of the company
  • Must have the ability and willingness to perform the essential physical functions of the position
