The Pump Operator is responsible for the daily monitoring of well site locations and produced water disposals. The position applies basic and some advanced skills to perform routine and complex operations using tools and equipment appropriate for the energy industry. 


  • Monitor control panels during pumping operations in order to ensure that materials are being pumped.
  • Monitor pumping equipment, pipelines, treaters and tanks to ensure they are operating efficiently. Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Operate engines and pumps in order to shut off wells according to production schedules, and to switch flow of oil into storage tanks.
  • Perform repairs to gas and oil meters, gauges, pipe sections and pumps.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to the well sites such as replacing and cleaning filters.
  • Troubleshoot operating errors and control operations of equipment or systems and follow through on required maintenance.
  • Utilize onsite equipment to monitor the condition of fluid contained in storage tanks.
  • Monitor tank levels and ensure they are never overloaded as well as work with various trucking companies and ensure they are being picked up.
  • Maintain and clean equipment to ensure a safe and efficient work environment as well as general housekeeping.
  • Prepare reports of services rendered, tools used, or time required; for billing purposes.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.


  • Pays attention to details particularly when watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot equipment, determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it, including the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Mechanically inclined with the skills to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Safety conscious and understands safe work practices for operating and driving in an oil and gas environment.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in an employee based safety program and willing to contribute to Savage's culture of Safety
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision 


  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years’ experience in one of the following or related, fields: pump operator, maintenance mechanic, roustabout, etc.

Fitness for Duty:

  • Able to routinely lift 70-lbs and swing a 10-lbs sledge hammer
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions: extreme wind, snow, rain, heat and cold 
  • Able to work at heights
