Savage Services, a supply chain and logistics company, has an immediate opening for a Logistics Coordinator at our Blaine, WA operation.

We are seeking a Logistics Coordinator, who will partner with the Operations Manager in coordinating the rail movement of products in, out and around the refinery.

  • Prepare daily switch activity in a way that ensures safety, efficiency and meets the customer’s needs
  • Monitor 3rd party rail activity happening onsite, such as BNSF rail movements
  • Coordinate and track railcar inventories, car locations and movements within the refinery; as well as perform routine field inventory audits
  • Communicate railcar movements to all interested parties such as rail crews, refinery production units and Savage leadership by phone, radio and/or email
  • Utilize and maintain the logistics system required to coordinate all inbound and outbound railcar traffic
  • Place orders for rail cars entering the facility including Sulphur cars, LPG cars, empty Coke cars, crude cars, etc
  • Prepare bill-of-ladings for all outbound Sulphur and LPG cars
  • Certify in all areas of the operation (switch person, locomotive operator, Sulphur and LPG transloader) and fill in as necessary
  • Understand the unique needs of BP in all areas of the refinery and see that you work to meet their expectations
  • Communicate with the Operations Manager on any operational problems or issues
  • Make sure all team members have everything they need to be successful
  • Ensure work performed by operators is in compliance with regulatory agencies, industry best practices and according to written procedure
  • Coordinate railcar repairs with onsite personnel and outside vendors
  • Take an active role in safety program including attendance to all safety meetings, adhere to procedures and ensure safe behaviors of self and coworkers
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Experience utilizing data management programs a must. Experience with the BNSF logistics system a big plus
  • Ability to key in information efficiently and accurately
  • Effectively interpret multiple streams of data and utilize it to advise Supervisors and Management on critical decisions
  • Ability to schedule work and plan schedules to accommodate production
  • A sound understanding or aptitude to learn the transloading of liquid hazardous materials
  • Understands, or is willing and able to learn, safe railroad operations
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference checks, drug screen, motor-vehicle report and criminal background check
  • Must be able to attend and pass all test associated with job related coursework. This includes, but it not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses
  • Able to reliably fulfill a set 9-80 Schedule (Monday – Thursday, plus every-other-Friday).
  • Work well with all team members at the facility
  • Understands, or had the capacity to learn, railroad operations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent computer skills, office organization and administration
  • Can multitask and prioritize work assignments while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrates a sense of leadership and ownership for responsibilities, yet is teachable and willing to learn from manager and others
  • Positive attitude; treats others with fairness and respect – expects the same in return
  • Is honest in dealings with the company, employees and customers


  • Dispatching and/or logistics experience a plus
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a customer service environment
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Work experience in an industrial environment

Physical Requirements

  • Will balance time between an industrial outdoor and office environment
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions: wind, rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.
  • Comfortable working from heights over 15 feet
  • Able to pass a respirator fit test. May be asked to work under supplied air
  • Able to crawl under rail cars and work in tight spaces
  • Able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, up to 4-hours
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of times
  • May be asked to travel long distances, on occasion, for additional training
  • Willing to receive calls and make callouts during days and evenings
