Operations Leadership


Leads the safety and technical training efforts as a member of the Training Team with a focus on truck driver related safety processes and programs.


  • Provides both in-class and on-the job field training to new and existing Truck Driver operators
  • Provides leadership and serves as a resource to the Training Team concerning Truck Driver safety, compliance, technical service and environmental issues
  • Coaches, mentors, advises, directs and follows-up without taking decision making responsibility and authority from appropriate individuals
  • Works with the Group Safety Directors and/or Advisory Council to develop training materials and resources for all safety and basic Truck Driver related training at the operations
  • Works with the Service Support Center and the Training Team in the development and the implementation of the Safe Driving Training Strategy of the company
  • Has the ability to develop and teach all Savages safety tools and the appropriate procedures to identify and correct or avoid safety hazards
  • Creates an environment for growth and development of co-workers
  • Works with customer(s) to understand their safety and driving operations, expectations and ensure a “No Worry” relationship in the safety areas
  • In the event of an occurrence, may assist the Operation teams  to ensure the safety of everyone involved, identify the Root Cause(s) and make corrections to keep the occurrence from happening again
  • Participates in start-up operations directing and overseeing the definition and implementation of training requirements to ensure safe work practices




  • Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsements (additional endorsements a plus)

  • 2-5 years safe driving experience 

  • Understands or has been trained in DOT regulations for one or more of the industries that Savage supports

  • Familiar with the fueling and servicing of railroad equipment

  • Experience working in, or supporting the Rail industry from a trucking perspective preferred
  • Strong PC skills, especially with Microsoft PowerPoint and other Office applications
  • Able to leverage PC skills to develop and track information as well as research and analyze information 

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel 50%-75% a month
  • Ability to work outside in different weather conditions 
  • Ability to work different shifts and weekends as needed
