Savage is looking for a Diesel Mechanic at it's Oakland Operation. The Diesel Mechanic's primary responsibility is to perform major and minor repairs and assist in the preventative maintenance repairs for tractors and trailers used to transport coal and ash.

  • Perform heavy and minor repairs on all trucks and trailers
  • Service trucks: fuel, grease, and change oil; actively look for needed repairs 
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and parts inventory 
  • Utilize computer based diagnostic systems, skills, knowledge and experience to determine what repairs need to be done and whether it's a Mack warrantee issue 
  • Participate in Savage's Safety program including but not limited to, hot work and confined space entry permits


  • An expert in identifying and diagnosing needed repairs by computer based systems, being able to visually recognize problems a big plus 
  • 2 to 3 years of Diesel Mechanic Experience preferred. Experience with Mack trucks a plus 
  • Must possess their own hand tools, sufficient to complete most jobs 
  • Confidence in repairing suspensions, rear ends, transmissions, air brake systems, minor engine work (injectors, turbos, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of CDL a plus, but not required 
  • Has an invested interest in operational safety 
  • Be able to read, write and understand English 
  • Proficient with record keeping as it pertains to maintenance 
  • Must be able to work without supervision, Work will be 4-12 hour shifts, will discuss at interview



  • High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work equally in a shop environment and outside in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to climb, crawl, and position their body in such a way that they can perform their required duties
  • Should be able to frequently lift 100 lbs
