  • Overview

    The Operations Manager position will provide managerial oversight at our petroleum coke handling operation in Baytown, Texas. There may also be opportunities to support the company in other capacities at times.  Occasionally the Operations Manager will be asked to contribute in ways, which may include the support of existing Savage operations as well as the development of new ones.  These contributions will require interaction with people from all parts the company and in different industries.  Additionally, there will be periodic regional meetings that will require attendance as well as periodic company and safety meetings.  Travel will be required for any or all of these activities. 



    • Demonstrate a commitment to “zero occurrences” by effectively leading the safety, health and environmental efforts at the operation
    • Lead the organization by exhibiting high integrity and showcasing the fair treatment of others
    • Drive utilization of the “Safety Specialist” program as a tool for accomplishing the safety goals of the operation and for developing future leadership
    • Development of a business plan and execution of the plan including budgeting, projecting and cost management
    • Build and maintain strong customer relationships
    • Manage the team utilizing the ability to solve problems and make decisions both individually and in a team environment
    • Foster an environment that supports the maintenance of equipment and drives proactive maintenance management 


    • Experience with project management and/or engineering
    • Basic understanding of material handling facilities and equipment including the associated components and maintenance
    • Understanding of human resource policies and procedure management
    • Team management and soft skills required to effectively manage personnel
    • Knowledge of computers and related hardware/software; knowledge of computer networks and programmable logic controllers a plus
    • Above average spreadsheet and word processing skills
    • Ability to write in English coherently with proper grammar and tone
    • Ability to see the “big picture”
    • Understanding of heavy, industrial equipment from an operating and safety perspective
    • Ability to manage projects from conception to final commissioning
    • Experience with a computerized maintenance management system
    • Willing to study and learn new technical skills and techniques
    • 3+ years of refinery experience

    • 3+ years of leadership experience


    • Engineering degree preferred, but industry experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree

     Physical Requirements

    • This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions 
    • Must be able to work outdoors in various climates for up to 12 hours 
    • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis 
    • Must be able to climb steps and ladders 
    • Must have the ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time 
    • Should have the ability to use basic hand tools
