    Are you looking for an opportunity grow in the rail industry?  Savage is looking for a Safety & Training Manager  who will assist the Operations Manager to strengthening the safety implementation, increase employee engagement and support operational leadership.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Professional interaction and collaboration with other Savage Team Members and customers
    • Assist with quarterly operational self-assessments 
    • Coach, develop, guide and mentor team members to reflect the Savage safety culture
    • Ensure the completion and documentation of all orientation, technical, and site specific training
    • Lead Safety Specialists and Safety Specialists Training
    • Certify all training and refresher training has been completed according to the job and site specific required training plan
    • Train, test, and sign off on company and site specific rail related training
    • Assist in development of written procedures
    • Be knowledge and proficient in all laws and safety regulations governing performance  
    • Provide required rail related site/job specific training to new and current team members 
    • Update and Track safety KPI’s
    • Assist with MOC when required
    • Perform daily and weekly observations/audits and proficiency tests with feedback

    Qualifications

    • Hands-on experience in rail-car switching, locomotive operations, and/or track maintenance
    • Hands on, hard-working, self-starter
    • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Strong written and Oral communication skills
    • Ability to work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed
    • Ability to travel to other sites as needed 

     Education/Experience

    • 3+ years of leadership experience in industrial rail operations AND safety and training areas required
    • High School Diploma
    • Certificate in Safety Management (CSM) preferred but not required

    Physical Requirements

    • Commitment to working safely at all times
    • Ability to be exposed to the outdoor elements
    • Must be physically able to do the following:
      • Climb on and off railcars and locomotives safely
      • Operate railcar hand brakes
      • Operate rail switches
      • Walk long distances
      • Consistently bend, stoop kneel and climb on elevated surfaces
      • Work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
      • Lift up to 50 lbs consistently throughout the course of a shift
      • Operate basic hand tools
      • Wear required PPE
