  • Overview

    This position will serve as a resource in all areas related to retention, employee relations, employee benefits, and government compliance while supporting the values and strategic direction of the Company.  Will accomplish people solutions and business group objectives by presenting, obtaining, and recording, forwarding, and collecting relevant information and delivering on people solution initiatives as assigned by the Group People Manager

    Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to the following:

     

    • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required. (Major focus on California employment and labor Law)
    • Consults with line management, providing guidance when appropriate
    • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies
    • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations
    • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, corrective actions)
    • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Including positive labor relations
    • Provides policy guidance and interpretation
    • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
    • Identifies training needs for business units and individual coaching needs
    • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met
    • Recommend career development, job rotation, and other training plans to extend employees’ skills and competencies
    • Respond quickly to organizational conflict, complaints and questions
    • Work closely with recruiters to obtain the key talent necessary to achieve Group goals
    • Provide Total Rewards planning and analytical support to managers on an annual basis (minimum), and make wage and benefit recommendations that will preserve internal and external equity
    • Champion the Savage Culture. Serve as the pulse of employee morale and engagement for management. Understand the needs of the employees and what can be done to ensure employees are treated fairly
    • Maintains team member confidence and protects operations by keeping People information confidential
    • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, internal training, etc.
    • Comply with all safety rules and company policies that may accompany working at an industrial site
    • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Previous experience in Human Resources management, preferably including experience as an HR Generalist or Specialist (4+ years)
    • BS/MS Degree in Business, HR, Organizational Development or equivalent
    • Outstanding business acumen
    • Ability to create and use metrics to collect data and drive performance
    • Innovative thinker with strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
    • Ability to direct workforce planning, succession management, retention and employee engagement initiatives
    • Strong time and priorities management skills
    • Labor law knowledge and experience working with unionized workforces (preferred)
    • Strong computer skills
    • Spanish speaking strongly preferred
    • 30% travel

     

    Physical Requirements

    • This role will office at Savage’s Wilmington, CA facility and report to the Group People Manager located in Salt Lake City, UT., but will travel to operations in many locations inside and outside of California where exposure to various operating conditions may occur. (High focus on California locations)
    • Must have the ability and willingness to perform the essential physical functions of the position.
