    Enviroserve, a Savage Company, is looking for a Hazmat Technician who will be responsible for on site environmental remediation projects that generally include pressure washing, tank-cleaning, confined space entry, spill cleanup, chemical packaging, and various other types of manual labor involving hazardous and non-hazardous waste/materials in the Cleveland area.

    • Pressure wash walls, ceiling, and bottom of various tanks to flush residues such as oils, grease, sludge, and miscellaneous chemical materials through tank openings
    • Connect hoses to water, steam lines and to vacuum vehicle
    • Scrape and shovel walls and floors to remove encrustations, miscellaneous chemical materials, and coke or catalyst
    • Sweep or shovel debris, sludge or miscellaneous chemicals into buckets, wheelbarrows, or down chutes
    • Remove chemical residues and other liquids from tank bottoms with squeegees or pump and suction hose
    • Dry tanks with wood shavings, portable air drying equipment, or hand drying
    • Perform confined space entry into storage tanks, boilers, industrial processing tanks, kilns, railroad tanks and cars
    • Conduct atmospheric monitoring to determine atmospheric concentration levels
    • Conduct work in atmospheric concentration levels that would require the use of an air purifying or supplied air respirator
    • Other duties as assigned


    • Due to the safety sensitive aspect of this position, all Specialists must be a minimum of 21 years of age
    • Must be able to read, speak and write in English
    • Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting/manual labor and the ability to work in elevated or confined spaces
    • Must be willing to follow governmental regulatory procedures, industry practices, and have a general understanding and willingness to follow safety procedures (as provided during company training)
    • Must be able to pass pre-employment, random and or post-accident/injury substance abuse screening, and obtain applicable medical clearances
    • Must exude a strong personal and professional integrity. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team


    • Valid driver license; 4 points or less
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Current 40-hr HAZWOPER certification, preferred but not required
    • Confined Space certification, preferred but not required
    • Minimum 1 year Hazmat and Confined Space experience, preferred but not required 

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand and climb or balance, frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
    • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects
    • Ability to utilize vision for distance, close, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
    • Must be able to perform heavy manual labor in extreme conditions such as heat, cold, dusty, wet, and noisy conditions for extended period of time
    • Must be able to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and manipulate up to 100 pounds
    • Must be able to walk moderate distances of a mile or more, climb ladders, and work from stationary platforms at elevated heights
    • Must be able to work in confined spaces and tight quarters
    • On an as needed basis, must be able to perform duties while wearing the appropriate PPE which can include Tyvek, polyethylene or other protective full body suits and breathing through a full face respirator for extended times
    • Hazmat Specialists must have a physical body weight of less than 310 pounds due to the safety weight restrictions of a full body harness

    Work Environment


    Hazmat Specialists will be required to work outdoors.  Driving conditions may be less than ideal. Anticipate off-pavement driving especially with tankers and roll off trucks.  CDL Drivers can be exposed to adverse conditions (including but not limited to rain and muddy conditions, rocky soils, snow and ice, extreme temperatures).  CDL Drivers may be required to work in a noisy atmospheres (>95dB), atmospheres containing fumes and airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. CDL Drivers are frequently required to wear PPE, such as respirators and protective clothing.
