  • Overview

    The Coal Facility Operator's primary responsibilities include general labor duties including but not limited to clean-up of equipment, work areas and grounds. Operate and perform general maintenance on equipment and grounds keeping. Unload Unit Trains and operate the coal handling and limestone systems.  The Coal Facility Operator will report directly to the Team Leader.


    • Operates conveyor system to transport dry bulk products
    • Operates dozer/loader to move coal and feeder conveyor
    • Unload trains, and close railcar doors
    • Operates locomotive
    • Perform class 1 air brake inspection/mechanical inspection on coal railcars
    • Repair coal railcars per AAR standards
    • Responsibilities are not all inclusive and may change


    • 18 years of age or older
    • Experience in operation of dozers, front-end loaders, excavators and other heavy equipment.
    • The ability to work from written and verbal instructions
    • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
    • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others
    • Driver's License preferred
    • Able to work rotating shifts and overtime as required
    • Can follow all rules and procedures as outlined by Savage


    • High School Diploma or GED

    Physical Requirements:   

    Must have the ability and willingness to perform the essential physical functions of the position:

    • Work in an environment containing coal dust and in hot or cold environments
    • Climbs stairs and work at various heights
    • Walk on uneven ground
    • Walk up to 3 miles per shift
    • Lifts approximately 0-50 lbs. occasionally
    • Lifts approximately 0-25 lbs. unassisted and regularly
    • Able to wear a respirator
