  • Overview

    Savage Services is seeking an Operations Manager to provide managerial oversight our Paulsboro Refinery operation. There may also be opportunities to support the company in other capacities at times.  Occasionally the Operations Manager will be asked to contribute in ways, which may include the support of existing Savage operations as well as the development of new ones.  These contributions will require interaction with people from all parts the company and in different industries.  Additionally, there will be periodic regional meetings that will require attendance as well as periodic company and safety meetings.  Travel will be required for any or all of these activities. 




    • Understand customer's key requirements and ensure that they are met; Establish a strong relationship between Savage and its customers in a way that creates value and provides opportunity to elevate relationships
    • Partner with the supporting Director to maintain the appropriate staffing levels at the operation including the hiring and training of operators and drivers
    • Guide the design, development and implementation of process improvement initiatives and activities throughout the facility to improve operational excellence
    • Implement Savage’s Safety Standards and work with the SH&E manager to create a culture of safety including the building and empowerment of a Safety Specialist team
    • Work as a liaison between your onsite team and the Savage Support Center functions to ensure the needs of the operation are met: recruiting, accounting, information solutions, etc.
    • Mentor and Coach a workforce to be skilled in petroleum coke handling and trucking, including the development and execution of site specific procedures
    • Execute a strategy for the location
    • Ensure the site has a proactive preventative maintenance program that minimizes downtime due to maintenance issues and maximizes facility throughput
    • Provide leadership in execution of the Savage System, including all elements of the S7 and 5S, through all facets of the business including operations and logistics
    • Inspects equipment for safe operation
    • Demonstrates shared leadership, supports, and respects team
    • Operations Manager will complete other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations


    • Proven ability to promote an empowered culture of safety where safety and environmental issues are held at a premium
    • An established servant leader with the ability to recruit, develop, mentor and build a successful team and bench strength
    • Background in relationship management where timely and effective follow-up and follow through with customers, employees and company was a key to success (do what you say you're going to do)
    • Knowledge of the refining and transportation industries and regulations are preferred
    • Logistics history including a proven ability to organize people and equipment
    • Good written, oral and presentation skills with an ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and other company personnel
    • Customer and contractor contract negotiation and administration experience
    • Self-starter capable of working independently, in line with company goals, strategies and policies
    • Ability to read and understand financial statements
    • Demonstrates Integrity, is a problem solver, has a positive, can-do attitude
    • Understands the Savage Maintenance program
    • Ability to travel on an as needed basis
    • Basic Microsoft experience (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)


    • BS/BA Degree preferred (MBA a plus)
    • 3+ years in a Supervisory (or similar) role - demonstrated leadership capabilities
    • Management experience with responsibility for developing and executing strategic business plans
    • 5+ years actively working in the trucking or refining industry

    Physical Requirements  

    • Exposed to all kinds of weather conditions including extreme cold
    • Mechanically inclined
    • Able to lift 50+ lbs
    • Able to operate heavy equipment
