    Rotating Days, Nights, Holidays, and Weekends: Shift Edit ** Start their rotation on Friday night and work 4 (1st weekend) •Off 3 days •Work 3 days (2nd weekend) •Off 1 day •Work 3 nights •Off 3 days (1st weekend OFF) •Work 4 days •Off 7 days (2nd weekend OFF) •And the rotation starts over again on nights. Our two week pay period is therefore designed to be 48/36 hours. Built in overtime

  • Overview

    Are you looking for an opportunity to grow in the rail industry?  Savage is looking for a Railroad Yardmaster who will be responsible for leading a crew to ensure all safe and efficient movement of rail-cars around the Westlake, LA facility.

    • Operate a locomotive to spot rail cars, unload, and build outbound trains
    • Inspect rail cars and perform air brake inspections
    • Professional interaction and collaboration with other Savage Team Members and customers
    • Participation in safety training programs, which may require brief and occasional travel
    • Assist with maintenance, clean-up, and other duties as assigned
    • Create an operational plan to mitigate delays and keep the operation fluid
    • Understanding of logistics, utilization of equipment & people, to meet customer service expectations
    • Proactive in problem solving, directing people, and utilizing coaching techniques in safety and improving behaviors


    • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
    • Ability to pass a skills test on the type of work performing
    • Dependability in attendance required
    • Ability to work Holidays and weekends as needed 
    • Ability to work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed
    • Ability to travel as needed
    • Valid drivers license is required


    • High School diploma or GED
    • Minimum of 5 years Rail Switching experience is required
    • Chemical plant or Refinery background preferred, but not required
    • Valid drivers license is required

     Physical Requirements

    • Commitment to working safely at all times
    • Ability to be exposed to the outdoor elements
    • Must be physically able to do the following:
      • Climb on and off rail-cars and locomotives safely
      • Operate rail-car hand brakes
      • Operate rail switches
      • Walk long distances
      • Consistently bend, stoop kneel and climb on elevated surfaces
      • Work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
      • Lift up to 50 lbs consistently throughout the course of a shift
      • Operate basic hand tools
      • Wear required PPE
