  • Overview

    Safely, service, operate and Inspect Locomotives as requested by our customer(s) in strict adherence to standard operating procedures. Additionally, Locomotive Service Techs will be required to perform minor service work on locomotives. Such services could include adding lube oil, coolant water and traction sand; cleaning locomotive cabs, servicing lavatories and replacing brake shoes. 


    • Makes a commitment to work without an occurrence; no spills, no injuries and no property damage
    • Performs locomotive service tasks in accordance with the Locomotive Servicing Procedures
    • Locomotive Service may include: 
      • Inspecting and replacing worn brake shoes
      • Checking, and if necessary, adding lube oil, cooling water and crank case oil to the locomotive
      • Check traction sand in the locomotive sand hoppers
      • Cleaning the locomotive cab, removing trash, restocking crew supplies and toilet evacuation
    • Readily available to answer customer dispatches and responds in a timely manner
    • Wears all requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
    • Conducts comprehensive pre and post shift vehicle and equipment inspections
    • Operate locomotive equipment and perform hostler operations between various shop locations, service tracks and switching areas


    • Must have a valid drivers license
    • Must be able to clear all background checks required by the Company, customer and government
    • Individuals are responsible for maintaining all required licenses and certifications in a current and valid status at all times
    • Must be able to read, write and understand English
    • Moderate computer skills are required
    • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
    • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts may rotate


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • 1-2 years heavy/diesel mechanic experience

    Physical Requirements

    • This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions
    • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis
    • Must be able to climb steps and ladders
    • Cannot have a fear of heights, will have to get on the top of trailers and equipment as necessary
