    Savage CANAC has an immediate opening for a Safety Health & Environmental Advisor at our transloading operation near Bruderheim, Alberta.


    The primary responsibilities of the SH&E Advisor is to develop and use proactive processes, systems, tools and metrics to drive SH&E continuous improvement.

    • Champion growth and development of Team Members regarding SH&E
    • Develop and use proactive processes, systems, tools and metrics to drive SH&E continuous improvement and optimize performance to achieve zero occurrences
    • Participate in SH&E efforts that make safety and health a competitive differentiator for the company
    • Develop, review, and publish SH&E policies and procedures as needed
    • Oversee reporting and record keeping requirements for internal and external SH&E metrics
    • Work closely with the Operation to ensure work activities are performed in a safe and healthy manner in compliance with applicable Savage policies, regulatory obligations and customer requirements
    • Facilitate incident investigation, root cause analysis, implementation and closure of corrective actions
    • Seek out and share best SH&E practices across the operation
    • Work closely with SH&E Professionals, Business Unit Leaders and Operation Manager implementing all safety and health related portions of the Savage S7 System (quality program)
    • Lead efforts to achieve the goal of an occurrence free workplace
    • Assist Business Unit and Operations with incident prevention efforts
    • Develop curriculum, content, and resources for online safety and health training
    • Interface with regulatory agencies (Transport Canada, Transport Alberta and Alberta OHS)
    • Willing to be reached and able to assist 24/7
    • Participate as a member of the Savage’s Safety Advisory Group (a safety committee)
    • Liaison between the operations and Savage’s head office (Service Support Center)
    • You are a subject matter expert on safety matters and safety reporting
    • Thorough understanding of Railway Operations and Rail Safety


    • Broad knowledge and understanding of Safety and Health, including a mix of OHS Alberta, TDG and knowledge of environmental and Rail Safety
    • Ability to analyze situations, data and make sound decisions
    • Training experience preferred
    • Computer skills (MS Office Suite)
    • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Detail oriented and self-starter
    • Displays leadership and drive to make things happen

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred
    • 5+ years’ experience in a safety and health leadership role or equivalent
    • NCSO is a must
    • CRSP certified required or ability to achieve CRSP designation within six months of start


    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to go where work is taking place (i.e. uneven surfaces, climb ladders, indoors, outdoors, changing weather conditions)
    • Willing to always wear appropriate PPE when needed and set the example
    • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. occasionally
