  • Overview

    The primary responsibility of the Operator is to safely operate and maintain various heavy types of heavy equipment. 


    • Operate heavy equipment to transfer product to equipment and trucks
    • Operate front-end and skid-steer loaders, and various heavy equipment
    • Assist with work-site tasks "outside of operating equipment" including but not limited to hand labor, repairs, equipment maintenance, and general clean-up
    • Maintaining accurate daily records on equipment usage, equipment maintenance and repairs
    • Maintain equipment on a daily basis which includes, but not limited to scheduled/unscheduled equipment lube and maintenance
    • Maintain work-site cleanliness (daily) which includes, but not limited to: scheduled/unscheduled worksite duties as outlined in worksite duty roster
    • Complete all other worksite duties as assigned by direct supervisor/manager to get the work done
    • Willingness to receive and follow directions from site supervisor/manager
    • Demonstrates a desire to work with others to get the job done
    • Committed to working safely at all times
    • Completes all tasks as assigned by the site supervisor/manager
    • Demonstrates commitment to the operation by being punctual and working the designated work schedule Of 12 hour shifts
    • Understands the importance of and demonstrates good communication skills with Savage customers and employees
    • Demonstrates a desire to acquire the necessary skills to do the job safely and in a way that adds value to our customer/operation


    • Class C or CDL Driver’s License required
    • Willingness to help with all worksite duties that require attention, as directed by the site supervisor and/or operations manager
    • Demonstrates worksite dependability by being punctual and present for scheduled work shifts
    • Determined to always wear the appropriate and required PPE
    • Conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times
    • Demonstrates excellent workplace safety, and is dedicated to helping other do the same
    • Willingness and ability to follow all rules and procedures as outlines by Savage
    • Willingness and ability to work Holidays, weekends and on call
    • Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
    • Able to communicate effectively in English which includes basic skills in reading, writing, and comprehension


    • High School or GED 
    • 2-5 years of experience preferred but not required


    Physical Requirements:   


    • Employee will work outdoors every day and as a result will be exposed to the elements
    • Employee must be willing and physically able to do the following:
      • Able to lift 50-70 lbs. Able to use basic hand tool
      • Climb on and off heavy equipment and conveyor system equipment safely
    • Work 40 plus hours (possible weekends)
    • Work on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time while performing duties which include walking, standing, and lifting
    • Must have a dependable transportation.
