  • Overview

    Savage is looking for a seasonal Transload Operator who's primary responsibility is to transload dry bulk and liquid bulk from railcars to tractor trailers.   


    • The position of Transload Operator is responsible for the daily heating and snow removal on rail cars for unloading of materials consisting of a variety of bulk liquid and dry products, including hazardous materials and food-grade products
    • Ability to understand and follow operating procedures and policies
    • Ability to operate or learn to operate railcar loading systems and equipment
    • Ability to perform work safely and productively
    • Strong work ethic
    • Willingness to follow procedures
    • Keeps work area clean
    • Is not afraid to ask questions
    • Can accurately fill out all necessary paperwork
    • Enforces safety policies and procedures with other employees and visitors
    • Willingness and ability to wear all required PPE at all times.
    • Assist with handyman duties within the facility (general maintenance, landscape upkeep & painting)
    • Interact with other team members
    • Interact with customers, railroad crews, and visitors
    • Understands customer needs 


    • Read, write, and understand English
    • Basic math skills
    • Computer skills (light data entry)
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Capable to learn how to operate and maintain railcar/transloading equipment (e.g., Hoses, portable conveyors, transfer pumps, portable stair systems, small to medium sized equipment, etc.)
    • Ability and willingness to travel to other transload terminals to assist when necessary; may be for up to a week at a time 


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
    • Valid Drivers License

    Physical Requirements

    • Physically able to climb up and down railcars/ladders safely
    • Willing to receive general safety training
    • Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps)
    • Willing to work with liquid hazardous, dry bulk and food-grade materials
    • Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds
    • In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift) 


    Qualified candidates must be able to pass an extensive background check, Pre-Employment Drug Screen and Physical.  Full time position with a competitive benefits package.
