  • Overview

    Savage’s Transload Operator will service the PBF refinery by safely performing activities related to the rail unloading process such as switching railcars and operating locomotives.


    • Load and unload petroleum products into and out of railcars. Activities include: railcar inspection, preloading activities, communicating with refinery personnel, connecting hoses and other loading appliances, and following developed procedures, and assist with spotting and respotting of rail cars.
    • Perform steaming activities to heat railcars. Activities included inspecting railcars, setting up railcars for the steaming process, inspecting connecting steam lines, communicating with refinery personnel, monitoring temperatures and steam lines, disconnecting steam lines, and reconnecting fittings.
    • General Maintenance including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, replacing gaskets, and other maintenance activities


    • Understands, or willing to learn, safe railroad operations
    • Ability to perform basic maintenance
    • Basic computer skills
    • Can work independently with minimal supervision
    • Positive attitude and a good team member
    • Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference checks, drug screen, motor-vehicle report and criminal background check
    • Must possess or qualify for a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card)
    • Must be able to attend and pass all test associated with job related coursework. This includes, but it not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses
    • Able to reliably fulfill a set rotational schedule (days, nights, 24/7/365)
    • Current/valid driver license




    • Work experience in an industrial environment

    • A high school diploma, or equivalent



    Physical Requirements


    • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions: extreme wind, rain, snow, cold, heat

    • Comfortable with heights

    • Walk 5+ miles per day on uneven terrain, etc.

    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
